A 90s kid remembers

Alright, let’s chat about the 90s, what a time to be alive, right? I mean, can we take a moment to appreciate the pop culture? TV shows were on fire! You had your “Friends” and “Seinfeld,” not forgetting the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” or even the mysteries of “The X-Files.” And the movies! Come on, who can forget the likes of “Titanic,” “The Matrix,” “Jurassic Park,” and the unique flavor of “Pulp Fiction?” And let’s not even get started on cartoons – “Rugrats,” “Dexter’s Laboratory,” “The Powerpuff Girls,” “Hey Arnold!” and “Pokémon,” all pure gold. Music, too, was hitting some real highs with a mix of grunge, hip-hop, pop, and alternative rock.

And can we talk about the tech? You know, when you were stuck between analog and digital, and it was all just so new and exciting. Remember that adrenaline rush while waiting for the dial-up internet to connect or that distinctive AOL email notification? What about playing with Tamagotchis, using floppy disks, or experiencing the thrill of using the first cell phones? The internet was just getting warmed up and we had no idea what was coming!

Now, video games. The 90s was a paradise for gamers, with systems like the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Sega Genesis, Sony PlayStation, and Nintendo 64. Who could forget classics like “Super Mario 64,” “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time,” “Final Fantasy VII,” or “Pokémon Red and Blue?” Pure 90s magic!

The 90s fashion, oh boy, what a rollercoaster. Everything was about denim, neon colors, chokers, flannel shirts, combat boots, and bandanas. Streetwear and sportswear were just starting to make their mark.

And, there was a certain kind of simplicity and freedom. We weren’t glued to our smartphones, didn’t have social media breathing down our necks. We actually talked, face-to-face. Kids had a different kind of independence, a different kind of childhood.

Let’s not forget about the booming economy. The 90s was a pretty prosperous time – the stock market was doing well, there wasn’t much unemployment, and industries were thriving.

But hey, everyone’s ride through the 90s was different. Some people might have had it better or worse, depending on where they were, their socio-economic status, and their personal circumstances. But all in all, there’s a reason why so many of us look back at the 90s with a nostalgic glint in our eyes.
